My tractor now working out :(

Today me and my mom are going to look at one shed that showed promise and if it is less then it would cost to build I will buy it and convert it to a coop and build two runs for it. If it costs a ton of $$ I will start buying material to build a coop probably either 6x12 or 6x8

Thanks for all your advice,
Henry

thanks everyone we just went to look the shed is 8x4 and 51/2 ' tall and is $780 delivered. Their is another amish built coop that I do not have the demesions of but looks like 8x4 with nest roosts vents and pop door for $830. How do you think these deals are? could I build something for less?

Thanks so much everyone I may just build a run and put the tractor in it but I also feel like the winter will be very difficult for the hens when they are away.

anyone know if this is a good deal I don't want to buy one like this if its not but I was thinking about trying to get this done tonight and sell the tractor on craigslist!
Thank you all so much,
Henry

You'd want to be sure of the dimensions to make sure it's big enough for your flock. Personally, I would not be real comfortable with 4x8 for a dozen chickens, but, you know <shrug>.

Also remember it's going to cost more than the advertised price (possibly much more) unless you have a vehicle you can use to go pick it up yourself.

For that amount of money, you could definitely build a significantly bigger coop. It might not be as cute, or (depending on your attention to detail) quite as soundly built, but it would be larger and it would be YOURS, and it would teach you a thing or five about building things. OTOH the prefab one would certainly be *faster*. Your choice.

The only thing I am going to express an opinion on is: DO NOT sell your tractor on craigslist until you have the prefab (or whatever) delivered, set up, and the chickens have been in it for a few days. There are a lot of things that could Go Wrong and you don't want homeless chickens

Good luck,

We decided :
I can't get a rooster unless all the neighbors agree (which will never happen

)
I will not try and build a coop but I can get building experiance with cold frames and in the garden this fall.
I will buy the coop posted above because this is a hobby right now and not a buisness I will be in debt to my parents for a month or two and will not buy clothes or go to the movies
lol.png
and I might work for my mom selling stuff on Ebay because she is technology retarded

(only if its the right size)
I will make a PVC run that is large enough to act as a stationary run but also light enough to have a small door shut and move around the yard so that the hens get fresh pasture.

This seems like an ok outcome and I guess my parents are resonable people I do still secretly want a "accidental" rooster

and I will check with my neighbors later on to see if it works for them.
