My TSC mystery box ...

Hi there! What cute babies! I am relative newbie to chickens as well but I actually work at TSC in receiving so I am pretty familiar with what comes through as I have to set up and care for all the chicks and signage.

The yellow one with hairy legs and a bit of gray on its wing is a Light Brahma I think. I've actually been seeing a few of them coming through as "Orpingtons" but they look just like light brahmas in another brooder so I think it is a mix up at hatchery.

I think chick with file name ending in 151350 is a silver laced wyandotte.

I think the chicks with file name ending in 150943 are black australorps.

I think I only saw 3 kinds--someone please correct me if I'm wrong. These breeds are mostly what I've been getting all through fall chick days this year and if they were sold as pullets (at a higher price than what straight runs are), then they SHOULD all be female.

Thank you for spelling it out, as I think I can see what you mean now. The 5th toe is literally on top of 4th, yes? I had noticed it looked different but -old eyes.

Yep. If you throw on your spectacles, or whip out your handy, dandy magnifying glass you should be able to clearly see them. Five toenails mean there's five toes...lol ;) But yes, it'll be directly above the fourth shorter toe in the back. It's usually longer and should be well-separated, although sometimes it isn't in hatchery quality birds. Salmon Faverolles are also easily sexed once their wing feathers begin to come in. Pullets will usually be much lighter than their male siblings.

Light Brahmas do not have muffs so they are definitely not Brahmas. ;)

On the two with the muffs (fuzzy cheeks), there should be three toes pointed forward. the fourth toe is pointed backwards and above that fourth toe is a fifth toe. I was going to actually circle it in the picture in the initial post but my computer is being dumb and not letting me open the saved image to edit it.

Anyway, I stand by my initial assumptions and say two Salmon Faverolles, one Silver-laced Wyandotte (last post; two pictures on top), and a Black Australorp (last post; two pictures on bottom).
Thank you so much!! Great information im gonna go look first thing in the morning for that other toe, im interested, im really enjoying learning everything and having chickens has been a great experience.
