My favorite goose Tuff-T passed away yesterday evening. He just a month shy of 1 year old. I was very sad today about his passing as it was shocking. I did not do an a autospy as I was much to sad and the thought of cutting him open hurt my feelings.
He has always been the most docile goose. I could carry him and he did not hiss at me. I guess now that I think about it were subtle changes in his behavior. He was not really vocal, which I attributed to him not being the dominant goose. He also didn't swim as much as the others which I just assumed was just his personality as he matured. He would prefer to stand on the shore or lay in the grass. He looked 100% even as he took his last breath. His fathers were healthy and shiny, his eyes looked bright, no eye or nasal discharge, weight was good..eating fine just the night before. Stool looked okay, no blood or pus. He was never limping but he was always the slowest one of them all. He was also clumsy and would trip at times.
When I went to check on him last night he was just kind of leaning into the corner. He wouldn't really stand and was just sitting there with his head up. I left him some water. When I came back his head was down half in the water bowl. He was still breathing normally, no sounds. I went to get some electrolytes and when I came back he had passed. Rigor mortis had already began to set in.
What do you think happened to him? I am thinking he had a birth defect? He didn't seem to suffer as he passed as he was very still and calm.
