Our 6 month old neraganset hen was attacked by 2 of our dogs. She's not bleeding but lost a ton of feathers. It's supposed to get down to -25 tonight so we brought her inside. Cold expected for another 7-10 days or so. Maybe longer. How long should we keep her in? Will she make it if we don't keep her inside? Any other helpful suggestions? This is our first year with any kind of birds. We have 20 chickens and two turkeys.

Shock should be treated for as a life threatening possibility, even without injuries. Warmed water with electrolytes and sugar should be given tonight and all day tomorrow. Check for puncture wounds. They often don't bleed so aren't noticed right away. These can be much more dangerous than lacerations which are usually superficial. Puncture wounds allow bacteria to be pushed deep into tissues. If you see any, start her on an oral antibiotic immediately.
