The babes are 8 weeks old. The blue one has cuckoo barring on the wings, but wouldn't hold still and let me get a good photo. The partridge was more cooperative...

I'm guessing the partridge is a girl, am I right?

It may be a smutty buff, in which case it could be either male or female. If partridge it is male. (Female are penciled throughout; you will occasionally find one with a fairly clear breast, but the back and wings are always completely penciled).

The one you call cuckoo doesn't look cuckoo to me--see how the hackle area seems lighter and more solid coloured? Anyways, for that bird I see no real evidence of gender male or female at this point.

Thanks for the feedback.
In real life the silkie is more red than shows in the pictures, with a dark undercoat.

The blue only has the barring on the wings, but it's very distinct on the wings. It just wouldn't slow down for a pic and rain cut the photo shoot short.
