In the real world, Gritty is in a good mood 99.9% of the time. Even when I'm out repairing a cattle damaged roost by flashlight I'm humming and talking to my chickens.

In the real world, when Gritty is truly mad, things start flying, families in town lock up their shotguns and even though my nearest neighbor lives a 1/4 of a mile away, she sticks earplugs in her ears.

There's a difference between good-natured ranting and true anger. True anger is a waste of energy and I avoid it at all costs.

However, if I didn't give Impy, Ranchy or Sourland a hard time, they'd think I didn't love them anymore.
