My very first egg - now what do I do?

I've got 4 hens and 2 roos. Nobody's sitting on the little egg. Is it dead? Do I take it away? What can I expect?

A chick does not begin to form in an egg until the hen decides to go broody and sit on it, warming the egg to the correct temperature. Being that this is your hen's first egg, they will probably not go broody for a little while and I would not let them sit on their eggs regardless until at least a month or two has passed due to the fact that most of the beginner eggs are smaller and not as good for hatching chicks. In the meantime, just gather eggs and eat them and Congratulations!!!
