my very own micro farm

Pics
Yay! Look at all that gorgeous green goodness! Happy for you. I am about o go turn some compost into my raised beds.

dont worry about sifting quite yet....as they will shed 20 plus times before they pupate...so it will be awhile...once you see your first pupa on the top then i would sift...until then just sit back and watch them crawl....i bunched up newspaper and tucked it under the oats in a corner...they love it...they will dig their own valleys and such thru tthis...
hope i have been helpful to you as many others on here have been helpful to me....still cant post pics...either

Ya I guess I jumped the gun. New things are always exciting. And you've been more than helpful. I see someone else is taking as tab at the coolerbator as well. Good luck with your pic situation. Seems like the admins would be on top of that.

Darina. I am doing the same with each box as I plant lol. Still a lot to go but like a said this is a good start and now its all protected. Between the chickens and wild life I didn't harvest much last year.

I have a couple extra treated poles I think I am going to use to replace the 2x4 support I have out in the middle. I realize now that the wire is up I don't like the seems around the edges so I might use some 1/2 inch strips over the top of everything to clean it up. Don't need chickens myself or my ladies to prick themselves on it.

i know its exciting thats for sure...expect some of the worms to die and turn black...same thing with the pupa some will die as well....as for the pics i have contacted the admins...and seems like there stumped as well...tried everything...cleared the computer history and cookies...even changed browsers with no dice...so ill keep trying...for you know i love my pics

Well now with the boxes framed up and screened and plants galore in all the boxes I had time to clean up in their today. Pulled some old fencing out that had a dead grape vine attached to it. And moved my old horse trough that I used for mixing dirt and compost(found this big fella under it).

Really opened the space up.
Got everything raked up and the last of the pots moved out as well. Also got bracing up under my nesting box, had crates stacked under it forever.
And now some pics.

Ahhh ya no. But that shovel is 2 to 3 inches larger than a normal shovel. Big spade=massive toad. Down in the valley currently, probably picking up more herbs in the morning before I head back up the hill. Rolling ideas around in my head for the broody condo, thinking 6x3x3ish for total dimensions. Not to sure about the look yet. Single side slanted roof for the nesting box attached to its length maybe. Similar to nayelis coop post. And it will sit inside the garden run next to the big blueberry boxes. I also grabbed the wrong peas. Apparently I grabbed the flowers not the actual peas so they are going to my mom. It is what it is. And she likes flowers. Update on her batik eggs. She's sold a few and is now asking me for eggs to blow. Lol.

Havent heard of mallard runners gonna have to look them up. Still keeping my fingers crossed for those two Swedish blacks. Place is coming together so it should be a go. I'll find out in a few days.

I like the way you count
Had to look up chicken math. That's hilarious! Let's try it. I have 17 chickens and 5 ducks. Four are Silkies, so that is 2 chickens. Down to 15. 3 roosters that don't count. Down to 12. One is a bantam Cochin hen. Down to 14.5. Two are tiny Seramas so they don't really count at all. Only got down to 12.5. Round down to 12. Still a lot of chickens. Wow! I live in the city too. LOL Down to 4 ducks since one is a boy. 12 chickens and 4 ducks. I can get more! LOL

Those ducks look awesome. But I am so not ready to do incubators yet. And runners are flightless? So maybe a couple more months(i could always send you some of my mallard eggs). Want to get a broody hatch under my Wing first. No pun intended. Lol. Also by coincidence I just finished watching the movie Birdman, talk about weird. Anyways. The condo I'm thinking of might have like a plug type lid that will fit in to a squared frame around the roof edges. Just a thought. Or just maybe something with hinges.
