interesting fact! part of my fingerprint is now more to the side of my finger, along with the nerve endings, my brains still working figuring that out.
Oh and the cold, the cold sucks, like, alot.

Almost forgot, the days are getting longer. record egg collection yesterday at 9 eggs. I'm sure there's a few stashed I don't know about as well. Lol crazy to think pretty soon it'll be over a dozen a day.

Should know in the next hour or so if the restrauants not finished yet. Gonna see what I can keep myself busy with until then.

It was nice to catch up on all of your adventures. My egg count is starting to come back up as well. It got low down to 3 eggs a day from 8. I have two girls still in molt right now, Alice the Minorca is looking strong and healthy again and should be laying again any day now. Cant wait for more sunshine to get more done with the yard and get the birds a nice hoop coop to call home. Hope work is good, would love to see a few pictures of your dishes at some point. Have a marvelous day Attimus. Give the baby and soon to be hugs.

Nice to see you able to get back to your projects!
My egg count hasn't gone back up yet, still just one a day (but it's still mostly dark and grey in my area), but the good news is that my poor layer has laid two days in a row after a long hiatus. So I bet I'll be getting two a day any time now! One is still mid-molt. Another seems to be going into a molt.
Thinking of getting a few Easter Eggers in the spring- but it's so far away!!

Weather finally caught up to work. I'm glad I set those posts when I did, been raining off and on since yesterday.

Got 10 eggs today :). It was most certainly the older of the two freeranging kelso pullets

The only other white layer I have is the bantam hen.
Here's a good assortment of the colors I'm getting right now

About 4 days worth, lol.
And here's the most coveted box being guarded along with egg by an ee pullet.
400

There was one in a box two over waiting and two kn the ground under my feet when I took the picture. They like the box on the end so much that they'll switch from another box to that one if a hen laying leaves it before they are finished with their business. I'm glad that the addition of the speaker boxes has seemed to spread them out a little more even if it is just curiousity.

Brunch in the a.m. new staff in the kitchen, one of which includes the boss, he's my hashbrown guy haha. Trying a different stuffed french toast, pb and j :) was gonna run these salmoncakes and poached eggs that I like doing but there's only a few orders of salmon left to save for dinner service so I'll have to come up with something else tomorrow.

Gonna be an early one.

Bummer about your roo..:(..what happened to him?
Yes, you can incubate refrigerated eggs....no guarantees, but worth a try in this case.
I did one that was 12 days old and in fridge for 3-4 days...broody hatched it out.
There's a whole thread about hatching refrigerated eggs here on BYC.

@Angie16hearts bummer deal, I hope some of those eggs hatch for you. Are you planning on sending him in to Davis for a necropsy? Hope its nothing serious.
People hatch eggs from places like trader joes all the time, and those eggs are refrigerated from transportation on Per fairly strict food and safety regulations.
Was actually thinking about your bantams the other day, let me know when you need to unload a few hens or pullets, my little girl is outnumbered and I'm sure would love some company.

Hope your day's improved a little.

I'm so bummed I put so much time and $ into him! So I'm collecting everything I can. I cracked 5 eggs. I knew my BR wouldn't be fertile cause she's head hen. He hadn't Smoothed her over yet. Looks like I'm am going to have a bunch of EEs and the Olive eggers. I have a green, blue and cream eggs he was able to fertilize. I wanted to mate him with a CM hen and my blue Isbar but she just started laying her eggs are to small. It is what it is. I know everything happens for a reason . Wasn't expecting to pump the incubator up quite yet. It's to quite around here. I miss him

I have a beautiful pair of seramas I will be mating. He's gorgeous and up to standard. She's a beauty to but has a bit of a long back. I talked to some people in the seramas thread. They said to hatch them out for sure ! He looks so good we may get some good chicks. They are the same size as my Mille Fluer D'uccle and my Cochin bantams. I would be more then happy to get you eggs. I have a friend up in twaine Harte who wants four of my hens in the next couple months. So I'll have to make a trip that way for her. Just let me know if you are interested in the seramas . No charge !! I absolutely love them! They are easy to train love to be held. All around good birds!
Anyways I'll be watching the coop all day. Sierra my ee hen wants to go broody. I've been breaking her but think I'll let her do her thing. Get as many as I can from him.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hit the local nursery yesterday, mostly just to browse, came back with 4 Tuscan blue rosemary :). They've got a ton of fruit trees right now, as well as a huge assortment of berries. Spent the afternoon wrapping them with wire and putting em in the ground. I also picked up a few 2x4s to finish up another box. Gonna try and squeeze that in today.

Been cold the last few mornings, bit of ice to things but everyone is handling it well. Better than I am always, little harder getting out of bed. Lol.

@Angie16hearts how's the egg collection coming? Are you planning on using the incubator or waiting on the broody hen? I don't have an incubator yet but have been mulling around the idea, miss alot of opportunity with eggs without one so maybe soon. Until then I wait patiently for a broody hen. Not sure if I'm ready to hatch out a few bantams yet either, the thought of having to cull even one of those tiny little cockerals is a bit much. This would most definitely be a last resort with rehoming being the primary option, but is still something I must consider when hatching.
Here's that bread recipe, super simple
2cups warm water, about 110° or so.
2 1/4 tsp yeast. Or one pack mix
2 tsp salt
5ish cups of flour, a small amount will be added as you knead.

Add yeast to water stir and let sit for 5 mins.
In a seperate bowl Add salt to about 3 cups of flour and mix.
I use a kitchenaide stand mixer for this next part. With the mixer on stir with a dough hookpour in water then slowly add the 3 cups of flour(this portion of the recipe goes against what I know from making pasta dough where water is added to flour, I'm planning on trying it this way the next time I make it) continue adding the remainito flour until a nice ball forms, remove and hand kneed until smooth.
Lightly oil and return to bowl, cover the exposed dough portion of dough with plastic wrap and let rise until about doubled, 40 mins or so.
Remove and separate into even portions and form your loaves, oil lightly again place on baking pan and cover until almost doubled in size again.
Whisk an egg and using your hand put a light coat on the top of the bread.
Cut 3 or more diagonal strips across the top for a professional look and place in a preheated 375° oven, roughly 30 mins. My times have varied as I've added ingredients to the mix without really adjusting the rest of the portions. I still bake like a cook lol.
Good luck with the recipe and please post the outcome.
