Pre and post cheese, need to cook them enough first without it or they'll be to doughy. I'll try to remember to take pics of the whole process next time.

You know that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when a minute feels like an eternity and you are entirely aware of something terrible happening and have absolutely no control over it... That was me mid service tonight when I got a text from the Misses about a chicken. More specifically a silver dotte and her waining health. After a brief phone call and description of what was happening a gave her some brief directions and returned to a busy night dumbfounded by what was transpiring. I knew my bird was dying and there was nothing I could do. After a few minutes of gathering my thoughts I sent her a text inquiring as too the possible amount of time she had been this way. The response was, she died. This all happened in about an hour, now I'm home and still dumfounded by the night. I have a dead chicken in a crate.... I'd really like to know what happened... I'm already looking into what it's going to take to send her to Davis.... I just need to take it one step at a time.

No sense wallowing, gotta keep moving forward.

Bummer!! :( Had she been ill...maybe I missed it. Sorry you lost her.
Usually you have to refrigerate(not freeze) body....not sure how soon after death that needs to be done.

Ohhhh geez. I'm sorry buddy. It's not fun to lose a bird....

So I sent the bird off to Davis for necropsy a few minutes ago. With how suddenly she passed I'll be happy to get some results. Once I figured out what I had to do it was all relatively easy. Threw the postage stamp lady off a little when I said it was a dead chicken I wanted to mail. I will be saving the Davis information in my records and keeping the PDF form saved to my phone for future references.
Should hear from them with an initial report within a few days and a detailed one within 2 weeks. I'll be keeping a very close eye on everyone until then.

Just out of curiosity, if you care to share, what's the packaging procedure and cost of lab work?
<chuckles at disclosure at post office>
