Got up early this morning and set the eggs. Incubator is at temp and running strong. Hydro is at 33%.
I do have a broody kelso I think I'm gonna stick a few of the mix eggs under to see how she does with them.
Of the 30 there are several saddled aircells and a few questionables, they mostly look good so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I do need to pick up a better candle lamp, thought my headlamp would be strong enough.

The chicks are doing well and spending less time within the safety of mom. Still bummed I lost that one but it is what it is. Still haven't ruled my cat out, seems like something he would do because we were gone to long. There's also the lingering crows and lack of daily human activity for a few days. Really it could have been anything including one of the roos if it got to close.

Here's momma duck with her little ones.
6 of 8 eggs. Eggtopsies of the two remaining eggs revealed one fully developed no internal pip, one partially developed. 100% fertility 75% hatch rate.

Now that my vacation is over its time to buckle down before the heat of summer comes.

So I jumped the gun a little bit when I came home to my eggs and missed an explanatory letter of there labels. There are no cemani in the batch and very few cross bred chickens.
21 svart hona. 4 California Hmong.
5 mixed svart/hmong
Still 30 eggs and still wonderful, I put 4 under my broody kelso Athena and the rest seem to be doing well in the incubator. No spikes in temp but humidity is running a bit high, 38%
I've read using a sock with rice helps. What doesn't help is the rain that came in today.
Just wanted to get that all clarified.

Just did a headcount of the mallards as a broody hen was being loud and unruly, all for hens accounted for. That means more ducklings soon. She's been Mia alot longer and more often than the most recent one, who was also out and about. Baby ducklings tucked well underneath mama. Bout to be a plethora of hatching birds out here. Can't wait.

Looking to be a productive weekend for me, met the midwife yesterday, just retired an aging vehicle and we have a sonogram appointment this afternoon to find out the sex of the baby.
Came down to mils last night to put us closer to things today. The rain seems to have cleared up but is still cloudy around us. Curious to see what it's like back up the hill.
Anyways the next few hours are seriously going to drag on forever. I'll blast it all over the place when we get the good news. Until then.

Onwards and upwards
