my very own micro farm

I think you might need to change the name of this thread...You could soon outgrow the "micro-farm" designation.

@LindaB220 the buried jugs sound like a good idea. I might try that out. I'm sure your happy to be back on your feet and out with the chickens again even with the bit of chaos involved with getting them back in order.

@darina haha yes it is growing. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the new birds. Feel like my estimated time for the ducklings is off, I didn't write it down until way later like a goof. She has a fee eggs pushed out so maybe still sitting on a little over half of them. The other duck who is further out, not sure how many she finally sat on. That nest is pretty funny to look at tho.The chicks should be pretty on time, this weekend. Kelso eggs should be 1st, she had an extra day on them while I built the brooder she is in now with the mixed flock eggs added upon its completion. 10 eggs after the crushed one was removed.

Have a line on a dozen pallets and possibly more after. A hotel here that we use the banquet room for special functions is doing a huge remodel. the site manager is a really great guy and when I asked him about them he was happy to offer them up. They aren't normal pallets tho, the dozen I'm getting are more compact than normal ones and some of the others I've seen there are made with treated rounds.
Free lumber is great.

The austrolorps are getting so big they are two months old now. Rebanded them the other day and starting to to think only the two blues are cockerels and I might luck out with 3 girls. I know for sure that the two yellow are, its the one grey I have left I'm not sure about. "Her" features are starting to resemble the girls over the boys. I'll try and get some good pics later. More to do.
Like a midget in a public urinal, I gotta stay on my toes.

Great news today while I was at work. The Miss' candled a few of the duck eggs while she was off. And they are developing. I apparently was off on the day she started. Happy tho, I was getting worried and was thinking about candling them by the time the chicks come, which should be tomorrow.
Pins and needles pins and needles. These arey first hatches and I really can't wait. Hope it works out with my days off. And man do I really need to get that new coop and run up and ready to go. Busy weekend with work. Big local butterfly festival. Not much done around here. Tomorrow is my Friday and the start of brunch at work, which means Sunday afternoons off and more time to build stuff. :)
Another good note from the day, my very good friend is moving back to town. He was the one who came up and helped out for a bit, more disc golf, but we did some work too. Lol. We spent a lot of time pre byc forum days working on this place and am looking forward to quite a few more games of disc golf with him in the future.
Now if I could just figure out what the 3rd thing is.

FYI chicken pesto omelet, blackberry marscapone stuffed french toast. Turkey avocado and chedder Benedict. My brunch specials. Pictures maybe.
Enjoi!
Catch you all on the flip side.

My chicks are hatching! Started yesterday afternoon. Found a piece of broken shell that was obviously hatched out of. 4 have made it out so far with a 5th on the way. Had the chance for a few pictures when she got off not to long ago. Unfortunately one did not make it and was stuck in its shell with only its feet and tail end out. Anyways back to the good here they are.

You can see the one pipping, the white egg to the left
was the one that didn't make it. Wrong end came out first. But hey we have baby chicks. Woot woot.
I also candled a duck egg last night and ccompared it to a very convient chart online. Day 26 is what it says so hopefully soon ducklings.
Back to the broody.

Thanks. Still not sure if the 5th made it out or the others for that matter. She's not to fond of me reaching in there, barely just broke the skin yesterday on the back of my hand, so I'm leaving her be for now. Don't want to disturb things anymore than I have to. I can hear them peeping and see the occasional head poke out. So freaking cute.

And from what I candled the ducklings should start today. Hopefully as well, last day of my weekend. Still working on the new coop and run. Bottom is almost finished, lined with wire tacked and filled with dirt. The frame is up too now for extra support on the corners and a few more braces down the sides and back. Then its onto the door and hardware clothe. I might find a use for all the pallets on this one also.

Let the kelso free range for a bit yesterday. First time and they were happy to be out. Medusa digs like a freaking dog tho. They both were really. Some crazy powerful legs on those birds. Hope the rest of the kekso eggs make it lol. Starting to enjoy them a lot.
I also put some extra 45s on the inside of the perchramp, I noticed they were pulling it to one side or the other when jumping on an end. Seems to be working out now.

The silver wyndottes duely name yacko wacko and dot are now outside full time in the bigger broody condo.
