I meant to say auracaunas. I read they have a lethal gene which makes their hatch rate extremely poor and survivabilty poor as chicks. Sorry about my spelling. Not enough coffee.

Araucanas can have high incubation mortality, but only when you cross 2 tufted birds. ....and it's really hard to find pure breeders with good genetic records.

Awe I see. I talked to a breeder here in town. He says he has the real deal.. Rumpless some with tufts and some without. I didn't want to spend the money for a poor hatch rate. How can you tell if a breeder is legit.? I'm not sure, but I think it might be better to try some EE or leg bars.

I dealt with this when getting the kelsos. I walked in, saw the guys set up asked what I thought mattered, but I was so green lol, I really had no clue.
In the end I just had to trust that what he said was accurate. All in all I'm happy I got them, and one generation in they are looking great.
I think if you want the araucana you should go for it just don't go crazy lol, if you think it's not in your best interest then get the legbars. hold out long enough and you might find a member willing to ship some ee eggs to you in the future

Brunch was slow, in part to the super bowl. No killer specials today, just wanted to take it easy. Now I'm off and watching my little bantam hen pick at some left over crepe and couldnt be more content, they have no idea there's a super bowl lol.
It's a great day out too. Gonna put my mind to some things and see what I can get done before this amazingly radiant sun goes down.

Also brought back 18 2x4s for the duck fence, we'll see how many I get up today. Oh and i got a headlamp so now if I'm feeling froggy I can do stuff in the middle of the night. Off to it.
