Kathy
I am so sorry. I am just sick for you. If you were closer I would give you some of my 6 week old babies! I hope that tonight provides some answers and safety for you and your remaining flock.

(((((hugs))))))

I'm so sorry! I had a similiar problem last year here in SE Georgia. My first year that I took "chickening" seriously. I got so disappointed. We set traps, etc., and finally caught a very fat healthy raccoon. He ate two baby (large baby) Pekin Ducks, and about 6 of my best layers and my husbands favorite rooster. I hated to cage them up but my husband made a nice big coop and we cage them up tight at night now. I rather do that than lose my hens and babies again.

Good luck on your fox. We have one around here the last few days. I hear that the saying is true: slyer than a fox!

So sorry for your loss.

Hope you find out what did it soon. We keep ours cooped up tight at night too, we've had coyotes around in the horse pasture tight next to the coop and we are starting to hear the raccoons at night around too. We got a trap for the coyote, but as soon as we set it up, the coyote disappeared

but there is always something around with cows having calves so we don't take any chances.

I'm so sorry and know how you feel. Its always a terrible tragedy. A few months ago we had four almost full-grown silkies and they were asleep on floor. When I checked on them in the middle of the night they were all dead and it was a very gory mess. My favorite, Chipotle, was grabbed by her head and ripped out a tiny hole and then decapetated and devoured. Then, the coop was ripped open and the other three hens were decapatated and disembowled but not eaten. Lets just say the racoon met my 22 rifle when he returned the next night to kill more of my chickens. Show no mercy! I'm so very sorry

Oh bless your heart! I lost one favorite hen a few days ago and I was just sick from it. I cannot even imagine how you must feel. It is awesome that this group is coming to your aid though. Restores my faith in my fellow man. I hope you catch whatever did this soon!

I lost my favorite hen this morning to a hawk. No matter how much we try to protect them, there is some animal that is hungry and trying to eat a meal. All I know is that the hurt I feel is the same as if I lost one of my cats or dogs. Chickens and poultry in general have been a wonderful new hobby for me and I am so sorry that we have to go through this. Best of luck. Christi
