It can get cold in Wisconsin. Really cold. So my chicken coop has some deluxe upgraded features. Electricity most importantly. No running extension cords out here. We installed underground electrical service. The coop sits on a large poured concrete pad. Its insulated on three sides and the ceiling is insulated with a shingle roof. The coop started as a converted lean-to but evolved into a home that's not pretty, but is extremely safe and comfortable for my flock. Complete with lights, light switches, and two electrical outlets mycoop will serve my flock, family, and friends well for years to come. I promise to post plenty of pictures as soon as I can.

I am blessed with this modern amenity because my husband is a journeyman commercial electrician. Our coop became his "PET" project. Lol. We insulated it to eliminated the need for heat lamps.
