My Yellow Lab & Chickens?

We just got four pullets and our lab (3 1/2 year old black lab named Reno- he is a trained bird dog) will NOT leave them alone. He tried to eat them in their cage, he tried to dig into their coop, and he tried to get into the garage when they were in there. I am really concerned he is going to kill one- but the chickens seem to be totally unphased by him. I don't think that leashing him would work- he is pretty strong and might be able to break free. Any advice would help!
