my youngest hen is growing up, trying to figure out what she is doing.

azygous:
there are no green feathers anywhere. her tail feathers look to be the same length and size as my red sex links, but her tail is completely slate grey, then she fades into the nice red and gold and grey color after the tail. so basically she is red and gray, with some gold now coming in on lower neck and right before the tail. I dont have a roo's to test the theory out about letting him tell me. body wise and the way she acts is the same as my red sex link hens. I will find a way to go take some pictures of her and post in the other topic section about "what breed/sex am i"? Thanks alot everyone for your input

I think you're safe in her being a pullet. I have an SS exactly the age of your EE and she also has thickish legs. I've been keeping a very close eye on her for signs she could be a roo, but so far, it looks like she's simply a robust pullet. Unlike yours, she has zero aggressive tendencies, though.

But a couple of her sisters do the chest butting occasionally, so yours is probably doing what you originally thought- just challenging her ranking.

I apologize if I got you paranoid over this. If she really is going to be a roo, those colorful feathers will come in pretty fast over the next four weeks, and any time after that, you'll be hearing what sounds like someone clearing their throat or gargling.

What are the characteristics that everyone is seeing that is giving them the belief that this is a Roo? I am just trying to educate myself. Thanks
