Well, it is an official nightmare! I have some 4 month chickens that have had runny eyes and/or crusted shut (milky white drainage), some coughing/sneezing, lethargic, decreased appetite, even a coupe of deaths. Took the worst one who was "gasping" for air to the local vet. He made some calls and had an idea it might be MG. I took the chicken to Raleigh the next day to the Department of Agriculture Diagonistic Labrotories. They tested her and then did a necropsy. It's a clear case of MG
That means my farm of almost 100 birds is now on quarantine.
I'm treating all of them with Duramycin/Tetracycline. My questions are never-ending at this point. Where do I go from here? Has anyone had any experience with this and if so, what did you do? Should I treat them or put them down? I sell a lot of biddies to fund my love of chickens. I could end up with carriers of the MG even after they are treated with the antibiotics. The disease could be passed through the eggs. WHAT DO I DO? Any advice from "survivors" of this nightmare would be appreciated!!
