Ugh -

I'm so tired of creatures and their aliments.

You know, I wasn't aware of the all "things" poultry can carry. . .when I started.

I wanted to get in the NPIP program to legally be able to sell hatching eggs, etc, etc. . .

The guy was out together and suddenly one of the chicks we hatched in October is sickly -

I hadn't noticed it before, it is a free ranging roo. . .

So the testing guy says it looks like mycoplasma, but the only symptom (which I know now is enough) is it, when we pick it up, is poor and weak (my husband has now dispatched it). . .
no nasal drainage or smell around the nasal cavity, which the testing guy said is very typical. . .

So although everything else was good to go - now we have to wait for the testing to come back in 2 weeks on the mycoplasma on this stupid chicken.

If he is positive - that is the end of the road. I have 65 chicks due to hatch, $100 dollars of chicks inside from shipped eggs and I just won a $50 auction last night on here :'(

I thought nothing of it at the time, but another roo from that same group - all hatced here from shipped eggs - died after being kind of poor months ago. . .

The tester said there is very little else that causes them to die like that, be weak or unthrifty beyond mycoplasma

Geez. You just can't enjoy anything . . .I am always a wreck over the darn goats and CAE, Johnnes and CL and now with the list of things the chickens can have. . . why bother

Is there anything else this could really be?

You wont know the 'true" answer until the test results come back. Wait til then and hang in there. Let us know what the results are if you would please. Good Luck!

No Mycoplasma. . .it was cocci - I feel terrible because I didn't even realize that was what was going on.
I'm so on top of a cocci prevention program on the dairy goat kids, and all I've done with chickens is feed medicated chick feed.
I never thought a thing about cocci beyond that. I feel awful that we have now lost a total of 3 to cocci and I had no idea

On the upside, we got our NPIP cert. . .

Congratulations on your NPIP certification! Personally, I'd rather deal with coccidia than MG. Thanks for the update.

Oh my, yes. Me, too. I just feel bad that I lost several birds without even thinking of cocci.
