Ugh -
I'm so tired of creatures and their aliments.
You know, I wasn't aware of the all "things" poultry can carry. . .when I started.
I wanted to get in the NPIP program to legally be able to sell hatching eggs, etc, etc. . .
The guy was out together and suddenly one of the chicks we hatched in October is sickly -
I hadn't noticed it before, it is a free ranging roo. . .
So the testing guy says it looks like mycoplasma, but the only symptom (which I know now is enough) is it, when we pick it up, is poor and weak (my husband has now dispatched it). . .
no nasal drainage or smell around the nasal cavity, which the testing guy said is very typical. . .
So although everything else was good to go - now we have to wait for the testing to come back in 2 weeks on the mycoplasma on this stupid chicken.
If he is positive - that is the end of the road. I have 65 chicks due to hatch, $100 dollars of chicks inside from shipped eggs and I just won a $50 auction last night on here :'(
I thought nothing of it at the time, but another roo from that same group - all hatced here from shipped eggs - died after being kind of poor months ago. . .
The tester said there is very little else that causes them to die like that, be weak or unthrifty beyond mycoplasma
Geez. You just can't enjoy anything . . .I am always a wreck over the darn goats and CAE, Johnnes and CL and now with the list of things the chickens can have. . . why bother
Is there anything else this could really be?
