Myshire Jumbo Mix—S30/F19/H10

Pics
Just to be said I'm very inexperienced and apparently the videos and stuff I've been watching are horse crap haha. I have a big 20+ square foot coop outside with 5 quail rn (there were more buta cat got into the coop house) and then the hatching time for when I buy new 5 week old birds (3/4 per side and is only being used for a second time). I'm just explaing my situation and materials/ housing above.

Cold for me is 20s to 30s at night.

1. I should probably blend their feed up a bit more for the first week right? It's crumbles and fairly small already.

2. Should chicks get electrolyte and vitamin water? If so how long?

3. When are they to big too escape an egg rollout opening (1in)

4. When can they go to a 23% protein feed?

5. When can chicks get treats like millet or cabbage?

6. How are you such a helpful and awesome person : )
I'm just picking at you. I'm sure you learned a lot of good stuff in the videos you watched but I am not a fan of hatching time cages.

1. I put about a cup of feed in a Ziploc bag and then beat the s*** out of it with a hammer for the first week.

2. I give my chicks Nutri -Drench water for the first two maybe three days. That's it.

3. No clue
4. I usually feed my quail 28 or 30% game bird feed until the bag runs out which usually happens right at about 5 or 6 weeks. At that time I switched them to 16% chicken layer crumbles.
I've only been keeping quail a few years and this is how I feed them and I've never had an issue.

5. Treats are a big no-no for me. I do not feed anything except the complete balanced feed. You have that by offering treats you are taking away from the bird getting a balanced diet which can cause problems.

6. I like talking to strangers.😁

I don't give treats too often just started giving them some so they'll like me more haha.

Oh damn I can go down to a 16% protein feed! Mine have gotten a 23% feed since they hit eight weeks old!

Does hydro hen work? I've had some for the summer but my birds never showed any signs of heat stress so it remains unopened.

Also I have a blender for quail food bc I accidentally bought 100 pounds of pellets on accident my birds were pissed.

Electrolytes are not necessary.
I'd recommend saving the electrolytes for the summer time.

It works. We give it to all our new chicks.

It's ok. I expect to start seeing chicks tomorrow night.
Can't wait to see the pics! Please??

If the 23% feed is a LAYER type feed there is no reason they shouldn't stay on it. I prefer LAYER type feed with the calcium in it and it is sold at 16% here so that's what my birds get.
It works for me. I am not a fan of giving any bird a choice to eat added calcium on the side.
