Mysterious death?

I have had a chick hatching since yesterday, it seemed fine and was still in the shell I checked it a few hours ago, it was barely being covered up by my chicken, so I put it in the middle of the best right under her. About two hours later, I found that it was dead!? While I was trying to find out the cause of death, I saw that near the leg the skin had come off and the bone was showing. Can anyone find out why the chick died?
