So went to the feed mill today and picked up the chicks I ordered.
to even up our mixed flock and appease my OCD...
didn't work haha.
Wanted one Americana and one Barred Rock, well they received extra. They SAID three were Americana and two were Barred. Well definitely got two of each. The fifth chick my nephew is unconvinced of being Americana... He said the comb is wrong.
The feet hint towards Americana, if she's a very light colored one.

Might be a little hard until she grows out a little more.
But not gonna turn away a bonus baby.
just really hope it's a layer not a broiler lol.
And that it is indeed a pullet.
Will post pics Saturday... If I can figure out how.

I have never managed to post direct here, possibly because I am on mobile data rather than WIFI. Photobucket seems to fix the problem for me but It still crashes if I try more than one photo per post. Hope that helps.

My nephew is stressing. He really doesn't want it to be a broiler but she's getting quite plump. I believe their hatch date was just last Wednesday.

A barred rock next to this chick from the same hatch day.
Behavior is not like the broilers we had last spring.
She is a dainty eater, she's just got good feed conversion. The barred are at the feeder more than her and she's way more friendly.
a couple suggested that there is a shot she may be a white rock or a leghorn or a cross of some of that nature. She's big but not really beefy like the broilers had been.

Sounds like a hybrid. More docile/friendly and faster/better growth and feed conversion. Probably an extra cockerel they had lying around lol

I think it's a pullet as you can feather sex any fast feathering breed when they are a day old but time will tell the most likely answer.

If all you ordered were pullets and it is a reputable dealer they shouldn't include any cockerels (unless it was by mistaken vent sexing or it is a broiler) but as I said earlier - with as large as the bird is compared to the others, I would think it was definitely a hybrid or some kind of Cornish cross or hybrid meat breed. I bought 90 heritage chicks - RIR BJG SLW BPR and BO and my son wanted his own bird as a pet - so we bought him a California White hybrid. The size difference between the heritage and the hybrid was very similar to that picture you showed above (although now at 6/7 weeks they are getting comparable in size).
