Mystery chick is a big rooster now... but what is he?

Hi everyone! This is the mystery chick that was included with my bulk order of buff orpingtons. I originally thought he was a wyandotte, but now I'm not sure. What do you think? :idunno

Not a Wyandotte, because the comb is wrong. Wyandottes have rose combs, yours has a single comb.

Where did you get him?

At first glance I thought he was a Rhode Island Red, but they are not supposed to have that much black patterning in their feathers. So I'm currently puzzled, too.

The hens in the photos are mostly brown, and several have various amounts of black as well. Of course, there's no point in asking what color eggs your rooster lays :)

The Whiting True Greens are fairly new (within the last few years), and it seems to me that McMurray likes to send new breeds or rare breeds as mystery chicks.
