Any ideas on breed and gender of my black chick?? Black comb - pea like, black legs, black underside to feet. Light bluish tinge to feathers. She/He is 10 weeks old and virtually no comb, vs. my roosters who are full comb and wattle...so I am thinking she but I am not at all sure. Sits low to the ground, not up like a rooster. Thanks!! Of all my chicks, this one has alluded me the most!

I agree on breed but I'm not good at sexing silkies and silkie mixes.

He has a good sized walnut comb for ten weeks old. The black skin is a Silkie characteristic.

Thank you! I did not consider a silkie mix - the lady I got them from didn't say anything about having silkies. When I google pictures, he fits the bill!

I am really hoping he ends up being a SHE - because I really want to keep him. Either way he's friendly enough maybe I can build up my hen stock to keep him around. He's awfully sweet.

Could also be a black samatra. They are completely black as well

But with that bit of crest, Silkie fits better and is more common.

No, they don't have that type of comb, feathers, or a tuft of feathers on their head.

Silkie mix, not sure about gender.
