Hi All you Peeps out there!  I ordered 15 chicks this past May and within the order I had 4 Easter Eggers & 6 "Rare" Mystery breed chicks.  As the chicks have aged I've changed my guess a few times on the rare breeds...I have nailed down 2 of them, now that they are 15 weeks of age (they are Sumatras - not particularly cuddly & very flighty but pretty nonetheless)

But I digress.... I am a bit stumped on these last two chickens - the first: my best guess is that it is a Silver Cukoo Maran but it is the largest of any of my chickens, by far, and from what I've read they are usually a "medium size" bird.  In this case not so...larger than the Orp, the Wyandotte and any of the EE's.  What say you?

The second pic is of another that I'm not certain of but my best guess is it's another Easter Egger.  It has a beard though so I'm unsure if that's typcial of an EE. ?  What say you?

Thanks for your input!

What hatchery did you order from?

I'm thinking the first bird is a cuckoo Marans pullet. Mine are pretty hefty girls.
Second is an Easter egger. They're supposed to have beards and muffs but we've been seeing more and more clean faced birds.

My Pet Chicken - aka Meyer Hatchery - so far the feedback support my guesses too... Marlene (Dietrich) is a big girl. Happy to hear I'm on the right track with the silver maran. Also on track with my guess on #2 mystery girl...the beard threw me off but I thought she'd be a EE. Waiting for the eggs for complete confirmation. Thanks!
Meyer's "rare" ended up being 2 Sumatras, 2 Buff Brahmas, 1 Maran & 1 EE then. The Brahams were by far the sweetest of that grouping. Sadly lost one to a fox along with 2 other EE's. Hard lessons learned - now protected with electric fencing!

X3 on the Cuckoo Marans. Mine is also a BIG girl from Meyer. Way bigger than the SLW same age. She's not cuddly, but so stinking comical! She's really kind with the flock too. I agree with EE as well, but you can't count on blue eggs for proof. I have 3 EE's (not from Meyer) and 2 are laying small pinkish eggs. One not laying yet. I'm disappointed. I Should have ordered purebred.

@ mutt farm, you can't order pure EE. They are njust mixed birds anyhow and not technically a breed. Or do you mean purebred as in, only Blue egg layers were used to breed them.

Also, I agree.
It is very typica for Ee to have beards a d muffs. In fact, a lot of people think that they can't be clean faced.

We are going to see a lot of cleanfaced Easter eggers since so many people are breeding Crested Cream Legbars to make easter eggers. Legbars have large single combs, crests and yellow legs.

This my Cream Legbar/brown Leghorn rooster. I plan on breeding him to the hen in the corner of the picture, she lays a gray-ish colored egg. I am curiousto see the egg color from this cross.

I'm aware of that. I Should have ordered purebred birds. Araucana or Americauna if I wanted a guarantee of blue eggs.

Be careful trying to order "purebred" Ameraucanas from hatcheries. Only a couple of hatcheries actually sell Ameraucanas.

I don't know of any hatcheries that sell Aracanas. You will have to locate a breeder for Araucanas.
