I got home one day and my tenant/roommate immediately said "these two dudes"...I stopped him right there since no good story ever started with "these two dudes"...

apparently a couple guys came by and offered him a chicken since they had apparently seen mine. Their story was they had a dog in the backyard and were afraid it would kill the chicken...Total BS since if they thought that what were they doing with chickens in the first place.

Anyway, after bitching my roomie out for not even asking me first (it's my house, he rents) I asked him to show me this "chicken"...I'm looking at this big red waddle and thinking rooster...they must have gotten a rooster mixed in with the pullets and wanted to dump it.

any idea if it's a Roo? Second question is breed?

With that size comb, either it's a hen that already lays eggs, or a rooster old enough to crow. I'm not positive which, but you will probably know in just a few days!

If it's a hen, she's probably a red sex link of some sort.
If a rooster, then it's a mixed breed but may have a red sex link in its background (that color pattern is not common among pure breeds of chickens, but very common among sexlinks.)

I'm not seeing pronounced saddle and hackle feathers but hard to tell. Large comb, could be a laying hen, but comb is stiff not floppy.

Pics are a month or so old. Has not grown much since. No "spur" noticed yet. never seen it in the nest box. It's in with 9 other hens who are a group. So its a scared dude or and even more scared hen. It's slowly integrating.
No crowing or mating?

A hen with a comb like that should be laying by now... unless it's elderly.

Or taking a winter break, or stopped because of all the recent changes, or...
I can see a hen not laying for a month as not being abnormal but it wouldn't be normal for a rooster to have not crowed in a month.
