I am loosing my fancy pigeons to a disease I can not identify.

They are very active, healthy, plump and acting normally.. with normal poops.

Every day I find one more dead pigeon.

I can spot the ones that will die. It happens over just a few hours.. usually overnight.

The affected bird will sit on the floor motionless.

It appears alert, eyes wide and bright, look perfectly healthy.. only it is very lethargic.

It won't walk or even try to fly. Just stands there doing nothing.. staring into space.

If I push it gently it will step to the side, then stand still again.

I examined the dead birds. They appear in good body condition.. no staining around the vent area, no sores or anything.

I have lost over 10 birds now.

2 had some green, quite dry, vomit in their mouths.

I looked in their beaks, but there are no spots or anything like that, such as canker.

Any ideas what is going on?

I dont have any experience with pigeons. I have however raised exotic birds and chickens. With that said its so difficult to know for sure what is every causing their illnesses. Is there anything toxic they could be eating? lead paint? plants? What does their poop look like?

I would also suggest trying natural supplements to help boost their immunity such as garlic and kelp. You can also try adding some apple cider vinegar with the "mother" to their water. None of these are apt to cure whatever the cause is but if its a disease it can help the healthy ones boost their resistance.

Still loosing birds. Now down to only 2 pairs and one sick one.

I took all the birds out of the coop and housed them in cages in pairs.. cages with wire grill floor.. so they stayed really clean. The cages on a different property.. so well away form the old coop.

That was about 2 weeks ago.

They can't be eating anything bad as they are caged up and only eat the pigeon mix, oyster shell grit, and bottled water with apple cider vinegar in it.. and vitamins in it on alternate days.

The feed is good as my chickens eat it.. and my ring neck doves. They are fine.

They still look good.. pooping normally etc.
