You are correct. It's actually pus from an infection of the reproductive track called salpingitis. If this hasn't been going on for a while, you could try an antibiotic. Of course, you will need to identify which hen is infected.
Scale is always an issue when posting photos of items such as this. The plate could be a small one and the item on it might be no more than an inch. If the plate is a full size dinner plate, the item very well could be the size of a real egg. It's good practice to always place a familiar object next to it for scale, such as a quarter, penny, a pen, or best of all, a ruler.
To find out which hen is having egg quality issues, you need to spy on them. It's kind of a hassle, but checking which hen is currently in a nest and picking up the egg right after it's laid can help match eggs up to the hens that laid them.
It could be a real egg. Could you slice into it and show us what it looks like with a new photo? Determining whether this is a lash egg or a shell-less egg will determine how you will treat the hen that produced it.
