Hi there. Long time lurker to BYC- finally got a question I can't find an answer to on here. I've got some 8-10 week old bantams (variety of breeds) out free ranging with my grown standard Ameraucanas. Also have mixed breed khaki ducks and Muscovies (just background info here). I've lost a couple in the past week to predators, hawks I assume since they just disappeared with no feathers to be found. Went to my coop this morning and found this guy/gal dead.
What seemed weird is that the bird was intact, didn't look like a predator had got ahold of him. The only thing I could find wrong (besides the being dead part) was this lump on the right side between the wing and keel. Is this may just an injury abcess that finally caught up to him or something more serious? All the rest of the birds seem fine, healthy, eating a lot, they have access to clean water, etc.
Any diagnostic thoughts?
