Hello! I was in Rural King the other day getting a few polish chicks, when I was distracted by these gorgeous silver chicks with feathered feet! They were in a "Rare Hatchery Choice" bin. I didn't think to take a picture of the list of possible breeds.šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø
The chicks look exactly like pictures I've seen of Lavender Orpingtons, but with feathers on their feet. The wing feathers that are already grown put are the exact color of their silver down. I believe them to be standard size, they are bigger than the Polish chicks, but slightly smaller than the Dark Brahma of the same age. They only have 4 toes on each foot. They are gorgeous! I just wish I knew what they were. Help, please? šŸ˜ 20230508_135427.jpg

The chick has yellowish legs like a Cochin, but I am not seeing the lavender variety offered by any hatchery that would sell to Rural King. Yellow legs are not right for D'Uccles, but that's what I think it is. Self blue is the same as lavender, just a different way of saying it.

Shredded feathers don't hurt the chickens at all. It just looks a bit messy. Other than making sure they are getting the right amount of protein, there's nothing to be done about it.
