I have a very small backyard flock (down to 2 as of one month ago when I lost one hen in one day - never found out exactly what was the problem). For the past month, my Plymouth Barred Rock, Diana, has been going through molting - laying no eggs and being a bit crabby. However, she has had diarrhea (dark green). She's been losing weight, but has been eating well. At night, she no longer sleeps on the roost with the other hen, but sleeps in the nesting box. I thought it was because she was a bit cold from losing feathers, but last night witnessed that she tried to fly up on the roost but could only get half way, so she got into the nestbox again. Her comb is a bit pale. I've wondered whether she has a bit of scaley leg mite and have dunked her legs in rubbing alcohol once every three weeks for the past 3 weeks. She has also been on Amoxicililn for the past 13 days - 1 ml a day. It was supposed to be 1 ml twice a day, but it was somewhat traumatic for her to get the 1 ml down, so I thought this was better than nothing. But really no change to her faeces. I have found no worms in her faeces either. Their coop gets cleaned once a week with a poultry protector sprayed. No mites have been found. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear. Thanks so much in advance.

Welcome to the site. I'm still learning about chickens myself, so I'm only going by what I've read, not personal experience. But diarrhea and weakness are two syptoms of roundworms, and you don't always find them in the poop. Piperazine is a wormer that can be added to their drinking water that should help if that's what it is. Hopefully somebody with more experience will come along with other suggestions...

The State vet (Georgia) had mentioned getting piperazine to get her started on after she was feeling a bit better. Do most farm supplies carry it on line or do you know where to get it? Thanks for your response by the way!
