i have been waiting so long for this day…but I haven’t prepared a speech where I talk my husband into $149 for one chicken so I guess I will have to wait. His favorite kind of chicken is a free one lol

I'm with your husband.
I would have trouble paying $49 for a chick... much less a hundred bucks more.
Not saying that it's not worth it. I understand the costs involved to start up with a rare breed. Along with supply and demand.
I'm not a trend setter though, I buy last year models of electronics after my current die or on last legs.

Same. Eventually they will be cheaper—the electronics and the chickens . I would pay $100 for a dong tao cockerel or pullet, but not a chick. A $149 chick is too much pressure. Plus, chicken math would necessitate buying at least two. I’m stressed out just thinking about it

Remove the Bobcat, your local wildlife service should be able to do it for you if you can't.

I was either thinking about 2 plus a couple of other cheaper breeds. Or just one Dong Tao, & a few other breeds. Then repeat until I get a pair.

I’m trying. Apparently trapping them isn’t as easy as trapping a raccoon but hubs found a specific trap he has to special order. In the meantime I am going to try a regular live trap. Hunting them isn’t easy either (partly because I don’t have time) but also last time I sat in wait for him he detoured around me. They’re very savvy. But maybe the DNR has better ideas than i do. Worth a call anyway. Thanks for the idea!

GreenFire Farms has Dong Tao in. They got them legally imported through a different country. It's $149 a chick though, which is understandable right now.

Give them some time, and eventually they'll knock the pricing down, though it might take a few years. Also, keep watch on their over stock deals (I think it's Thursdays). You might be able to get some half off.

That's quite an interesting development! If anyone here does end up buying some I would love to know the circumference of their legs. See how well they hold up to other countries Dong Tao.

Their website does suggest they themselves imported from Vietnam through Belgium. Their legs don't seem as thick as in the photo's of Vietnamese ones. More similar to the leg size of Dong Tao from European countries I have seen. Although supposedly there are meat Dong Tao with less thicker legs than show Dong Tao, so maybe they are all just meat Dong Tao.
