If they're all actually onyx, they grew very well. At about 8 (?) Weeks, the smallest pullet (the all black one) was over 4 lbs live weight. The rest were over 4.5 and the male was about 6.

Does anyone know the temperament of the Mystic Onyx roosters? We have some chicks that i think are Mystic Onyx, but we don’t know if they will be hens or roosters. We don’t want to keep mean roosters…

Mine a sweetheart and a lap chicken. He’s even more friendly then the hens. Here he is at 3 months

I also recently bought some. I'm kinda obsessed with Goth chickens and wanted to get the Ayam Cemani chicken but had a hard time finding chicks so I decided to order this breed which is very close to it.

You all will love them. Their eggs are a very lite tan. They are a conversation piece. I’m gonna cross breed them with my americano black rooster.

To me Hoover Mystic Onyx look like the Svart Hona. But that with the hens. The males have color. The Silkie is definitely used in creating this line.

I think anyone who may want Ayem Cemani or Svart Hona, this is a great alternative. They are cold hardy like the Svart Hona.

I am so glad I found this thread. I really want Svart Hona chickens but they are really hard to find. I'm glad that I may have another option that may be easier to find. Thanks for all the info everyone!

For folks who have mature mystic onyxes, I am assuming their size isn't an issue as they age (size/health as it is with some meat birds). I know these are crossed with silkies, so I am assuming their size does not compromise their health in the same way, but soliciting feedback. Thanks!

My two that might be mystics are a year old in April. They're decently large birds, though they nearly halved their visual weight this winter (I'm thinking they just lost a lot of fluff though).
