N.E. Chickenstock 2011!!!!!! Who's up for it??

If I brought any of my children is would have to be my 6 yr old and the older of my 3 yr old twins. The 6 yr old would get the most out of it. He is high functioning autistic and into animals. He is our reason for getting a farm (even though this is a rental), getting the chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. The other one is a bit shy. Ok self-consciencous is more like it. He is so like I was as a child. We let him be and just let him do things on his terms. We try to introduce him to new situations to help him cope better with them better. This also gives us a chance to show him how to deal with the fear. We also don't force him. If he wants to be shy he can. If he wants to be outgoing he can.

As I have put it to the school, my kids are hard to explain. They are contradictions in and of themselves.

We totally scared them. My DH refers to us BYCers as the "crazy chicken people" and the few "outside" folks who came were totally weirded out by our love of poultry!! LOL!!

I think my new hobby crossed into addiction that very day...

Glad to see you'll be there Sarah. I thought you were moving away? Or was that just a ploy to get someone else to host this year?

Actually Steph volunteered to host the spring meet. My "vision" - If I can be so cheesy - is to have a spring meet where we do the chick thing and a fall meet where we swap/sell the birds we aren't keeping for the next year. I think it would be totally cool to have it at different locations so more people can come.

I will eventually be moving back to KY. I am here at least until the 2011 foaling season(assuming my two mares get back in foal-touch wood). DH and I did relocate to a larger farm, but still in the area.

Oh, and I'm hoping my niece will be there. She is 13 and the proud owner of a polish splash hen. She, unlike my bio children, totally appreciates the "chicken thing"

And addiction ain't the half of it!!!!

here are the breeds I am interested in trying :

Australorp, Barnevelder, Brahma, Delaware, Dominique, Jersey Giant, Orpintons (other than buff) & Sussex

We are getting Buff Orpingtons and Salmon Faverolles, so unless I see a Faverolle that I have to have it is just the others I am going to have to watch myself with. Also if there are certain breeds of goats and sheep or pigs I am gonna get killed by the hubby in front of everybody.

Those are beautiful hens. I love the pattern! Is that silver-penciled? Wow!

Yup, they're Silver Penciled Plymouth rock bantams. They are compact little birds, with super soft plumage. Out of all of my birds they are my favorite. Not only for they're looks, These girls have personality. They're so inquisitive, They don't miss a thing. I watched one go nose to nose with my cat. Her feathers were flared & her head down like a charging bull. The cat fled for his life.....Was the funniest thing

You could have at least humored me and assured me that it was possible to leave without new chicks. Come on lie to me people.

BTW got the guys on board. Hubby said we take the best behaved child with us. Hands down that will be my 1 yr old. LOL

Won't have anything to trade this year since I will only have my new guys and want to get to know them first. Maybe some chicks next year, If I don't cull them before that.

I believe the saying here at BYC is "resistance is futile".

I need the lie. I have to have the lie. I need it. I know resistance is futile, but would it hurt you all to lie to me and say it is possible? Come on be a sport.....
