I love the NN bantams. Probably the only reason I don't have them is because I don't know anyone around here that has them and haven't seen them at swaps. But then you don't see any NNs around here anyway. I hope that changes. They're great birds.

I would have to second that - well as this threads biggest lurker ! I would really like some bantams but i never see them either. I have seen a couple large fowl roosters att auctions or meets but never bantams...

Speaking of Bantams... I hatched some NN-Minorca chickens. They are almost 6 weeks old and doing great. Growing like crazy. Except one. It is tiny! Basically the same size as when it hatched. But it is always the first one on the food dish, is running, flapping wings (doing a Wright Brothers flight), chirping - definitely nothing wrong with it except compared to the others it is minuscule! And I do not have any Bantams. Maybe both parents had some recessive bantam gene? Or is it going to grow all of a sudden?

Bantams are hard to find around here also. People want large eggs and there are too many preditors on the ground and in the air. Down in the LA area is an exception. Tons of folks raise Silkies and Serams as show birds. There is a major breeder of NN some of which are bantam but he is difficult to access. Sparky and Miss Roja are from eggs shipped from TN. I ordered them from a BYC auction. I really enjoy watching their antics in my garden. Just too cute !

These are my 3 favorites. The red one is a runt, but friendliest. No. 2 has the least neck feathers...hurray! And the first one has me stumped as to color. Should not be a buff, although a remote possibility. Pens were red (1 buff but suggested she wasn't laying), bbs, and project pen possible mottled . Can't remember for sure if there was any Speckled Sussex in the project pen. Anyone want to venture a guess?

Gootziecat i have one just like your little blonde bombshell.She came from a cross between a pure bred large black NN rooster and a Warren hen (Light Sussex X RIR) I think!. I believe the colouring must come from the Sussex bit, and expect that these chicks will grow up to be yellow with the odd black bit for good measure.

When I have my own computer back I will take a picture of my little Blondie as we call her. Feisty little beggar she is, too.

In Britain, as a matter of interest, bantams are more common than the LF. However, the breed overall is far from common. I have managed to convert quite a few folk, though. My rooster, Mort, loves to be petted, and children find him fascinating, so they have a cuddle with him, and......family converted. Poor Mort has his foot problem back, though, and things don't look good
