Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Today was the Week 4 weigh-in, and this is officially the largest and fastest growing NN cockerel I've ever hatched.

Lenny: 15.8 ounces @ 4 Weeks of age

AND.....Today my little buff Silkie successfully hatched a NN chick. I'm such a proud chicken grandma!

Congratulations! (Gotta get me some Silkie broodies...)

And congrats on Lenny. Keep us updated on his growth curve. Tank was 16.25 oz at 4 weeks, but then plateaued and is now surprisingly not all that exceptionally big (I think maybe 7 lbs or so). So he grew fast and then slowed down (and was not unwell or bullied, so I don't think there was an environmental reason, though I could have missed something). I'll be interested in seeing how fast his babies grow.

So I'm 90% sure we have 2 boys, 3 girls.

This was the reddish chick we thought would end up being a boy;

This one has been a surprise, I'm 99% certain he's a boy. His coloring is interesting. I'm not sure exactly what to call it. It's almost buff, but has some red tones and white specs, with the sporadic black feather. We'll see where he goes.

This girl is me smallest, she had the curled wing originally, but has since developed pretty normally. She is the least feathered of all 5, interestingly enough;

This guy is my BIG boy. He grew at the same rate as our sex-links. He's SUPER heavy. There's a feel-able difference when picking him up vs. other NNs from our brooder. It's a shame we decided to not weight them, since we couldn't follow parent lineage, it would've been nice just to see what his growth rate was;

This is the other black-ish girl we have, heavier than the other, but she definitely falls in the middle category in terms of weight. She's very spazzy though, getting a non-blurry picture proved impossible;

Well, my little buff Silkie managed to hatch 2 eggs, both containing NN chicks, but she abandoned the first chick while the 2nd egg was hatching. I tried reintroducing the chick to her but she started pecking it horribly, so now I have her in an isolation pen where she's cursing me profusely in chick cluck (yes....I'm sure she called me a Mother Clucker) and two little chicks in the brooder in my house doing marvelously.

Chick 1 hatched last night:

And Chick 2 hatched sometime today while I was at work:

Eeeeee, so cute! Who're the parents of those two? :)

Chick 1 came from Gypsy (NN + Bielefelder mix):

...and Pepper (NN + Australorp mix):

Chick 2 came from Haley (White Rock + Bielefelder mix):

...and Zazzle (homozygous NN):

Since both of Chick 2's parents carry the barring gene, but mom is dominant white, I'm really curious to see what it's feathering turns out like.
