Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Yes like NaNa but much more variable  with some close to looking "nana".  There will be some that trick you if you don't look closely.   btw the genetic name is Cr.  It also works like Na-  CrCr have fuller bigger crests than Crcr   The size difference(polish vs legbar) etc are due to other things

So Cr works just like Na- some have more feathers, some have less and CrCr means that they have a double copy of it and all of their ofspring will have crest-not that it will be big?

So, since I'm snooping on this discussion I should probably add something. My brother likes to get random mixed hatching eggs at the livestock auction, and ended up with these two NN that he let me have. Since then, my life has upended. My birds are mixed in with a cousins flock in Utah, while I'm stuck in AZ. But I hope to get back up there and bring my birds down here soon. The only pics I have are from when the NN's were about 14 +/- weeks back in August. I last saw them in November, and they looked gorgeous. Especially the roo. I can't wait to see how they look now. Thing is, they are crossed with something that's given them feathered feet. I wanna say Maran, but really have no idea.

With them being so black and the pullet having the tall long legged look.. I'd have guessed langshans. Hope you get settled down soon!

Thankyou. They are kinda long legged, huh.. I didn't really think about that. I just really like how pretty they're getting. Back in November, at about 6 months old, the roo was already a big ladies man and the hens seemed to like him. He was developing just a few red spots on his wings, but his saddle feathers were a solid black and so shiney it's like he uses Soul Glo!

Very cute, and you got a silver based NN.. are these hatchery birds or?

Thanks!

These are some F2 Nn. Parent stock was from a barnyard mix (from another farmer) of either: delaware / new hampshire / barred rock / maran / x naked. One of the males I kept from F1 looked like a mostly delaware phenotype.

Here's a sleepy shot of the rest.

I have also thought langshans, but I like the look of these even with feathered legs.

Have you guys seen German bantam langshans. I really like the unususal look and would like to have something like that in my yard.

I thought they looked very nice! Langshans have that 'handsome' look, not sure how to describe it, yours were giving that too.

To expand a little bit.. solid black NN are extremely rare.. most marans are not solid colored- except for cuckoo. It is way unlikely to get such black birds from a non solid NN and a copper marans. If cuckoo was involved then it would not be a cross, would have to be a second generation or more mix away from the first cross because both of them lack the cuckoo gene. Langshans while pretty rare.. would be much easier to get very black birds from crossing with them...

the last detail was the tail being relatively long on the pullet. Langshans have a long/longish tail...
