Naked Neck/Turken Thread

So hard when they turn out different than what you want

it is even harder when you don't have room to keep so many boys! the black one is a keeper as I want black NNs. BUT my birchen boy is so handsome and such a good roo. I don't know what I am going to do with him but he stays too.

Now you're singing my song. I butchered a big rooster this past weekend because I had a dozen roosters here and really have to start culling down the flock. He was beautiful, large, had a great crow and a friendly personality, and was very good to his girls. I've been splitting hairs to determine keepers vs culls, and his narrow back ruled him out. It was one of the hardest culls I've done to date and I still wonder if I'll eventually regret it.

By comparison, this is my newest breeder. I love everything about this boy - Color, wide back, deep chest, good comb and legs, good temperament, friendly, and HUGE. He last weighed in at 10 lbs at 29 weeks of age. Oh...and he's a strong carrier of the blue egg gene to boot!

I have decided to keep roos 1-2 years only unless a top pure breed breeder. we shall see if I can do it, lol.

lenny was one of my favourites but we all know chickens shouldn't die of an old age. hard to accept but true.
