Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Oh yeah that's definitely dominant white. the little black spots in down are classic of DW crosses. No question of him being the dad. I'm also guessing these have black skin gene, however DW also has a repressing effect on skin pigmentation to varying degrees. They may show more of it later.. or not.

Still potential to be his if male.. if there's no barred hens(I forget if you have some or not?) then this definitely not his.

Now that could be tricky.. it seems your silkie is not bearded? if your Amer is purebred and pure for beard gene, then he probably is not father as I don't see any trace of beard on this chick... beard is dominant/semi-dominant. I'm not sure if it's just color patchiness, or if that's a trace of barred head spot on that chick's head..?
No barred hens at all. I do have some barred chicks, but no barred hens.

My silkie is bearded.. Hmm. This above chick does have a little yellow dot above the head, but the body is a blue, which made me think not barred.

Here's two more pictures of it. It has 4 toes.

The only unbearded roosters I have are Brian & my barred rocks. The rest all have beards.

I have 3 roosters like this running around. I thought maybe one would be the dad.

That does seem to be a head spot.... head spots are easiest seen on black chicks or if the head has really dark areas. On other colors it can be vague. If it turns out to be a blue barred, it would prove your silkie carries blue and of course a barred rock would be his father.

It seems your silkie is not pure for beard.. this bred with non-bearded would give half non-bearded chicks. With Amers as fathers, the chicks really should be all bearded- many with big cheek puffs... perhaps very few non beardeds if there's a roo not pure for beard.

If I see barring, I'll let you know. I'd love for the barred rock to be the father. I think it would be a really cool looking cross :)

Mother definitely has a beard.

I agree, tough to say. Mine tend to be pretty good layers.

another in agreement. I've had many "lines" also my own mixes, etc. overall pretty good layers. some better than others. Even the bantams can be good layers. Hatchery stock seemed to be great layers.

But did have a couple lines that were only fair layers.
