Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Hi! Glad to be here : )
Got one that is a puzzlement to me, maybe you know 'how'.
This youngster is from a solid black hen that is a silver laced Polish x Silkie cross. The hen is dark-skinned, crested, and clean-legged. She is the only bird here that is split to laced.
The father of the youngster has got to be a blue or splash Naked Neck (it could be one of many).
I can see lacing (poor lacing), but I didn't think it was possible for it to show ????

I love the way it looks, but it is mysterious.

Hey Lisa, Glad to see you back. Where have you been? The little duck's foot is still turned inward. Tried to splint it and it all fell off! Need to get some vet tape tomorrow. The ducks are just the sweetest things. BUT WHAT A MESS THEY ARE!!! Everything stays wet! Here they are getting their first bath/swim.

This is the daughter who keeps surprising us with the duck eggs!

Loving their bath!

Wheeeeee. this is great!

Also, just hatched 6 eggs from my own chickens for the first time. No NNs so far. Only one chance left. Lisa, I had to rehome my non NN roo I hatched from your eggs. He kept jumping my small dogs. Just wouldn't tolerate that!

Oh wow, that is an adorable pic --- your daughter is beautiful!
They are crazy-messy for sure! I seem to always have ducklings (I moved a group outside this morning and new ones hatching tonight). I like to give them a wire-bottom brooder and get them outside as soon as possible.
Sorry to hear you had to get rid of the guy, but it is kind of funny he attacks dogs. They tend to be so laid back and mellow here.
Pfffft, my computer is sometimes slow and annoys me, but I miss you guys and byc : )

Hey guys, dropping in again! It has been awhile and I have been busy with moving, working, computer dieing and of course playing with chickens! I have lots of new NN's up and coming. I have some pictures but will have to get more of the younger ones.

Up and coming new salmon. I will have to see how he looks when he gets his adult feathers

Salmon hen

Possible future salmon showgirl project??? What do you think?

Oooh are you getting tempted to work with lacing? ;)

Her tail being white with signs of lacing indicates she is probably Birchen base. If you put lacing genes on a birchen base bird, you get birds with lacing on the tails too- like on sebrights, polish. (wyandottes are on partridge base- that is why their tails are black, not laced)

A lot of solid black chickens are actually birchen or half birchen half extended black with extra genes to fill in the 'birchen color areas'.

It's possible the father was either a birchen or birchen carrier black.. this gene combined with the birchen from the polish grandmother created this bird pure for birchen.. with some of the genes necessary for lacing also present is the cause of the partial lacing all over her.

Is she possibly blue? could create a line of blue laced silvers from her very easily as she has the foundation plus some of the desired genes already....

Hey welcome back to you too! Cluck Norris? He can kill you with his little hind toe?

Beautiful birds as usual. Salmon silkie/showgirls would be beautiful! Salmon is silver on wheaten.. not sure if there is wheaten in silkies in general(huge majority are partridge) but if you have silkied wheaten birds then that is do-able! if exact match does not matter, then breeding him over partridge silkies will give you "more or less like salmon" chicks- silver partridge but you also want to keep the girls that show a lot of red. Keeping red despite being silver is what makes salmon series so striking in color. Normally birds with silver have littrle or no red at all.

Here's an update on these guys (namely the little white roo) and some gender puzzles. :) They're now about 11 weeks old.

The little guy is definitely still a guy, still doesn't have a tail, and is now this gorgeous color. I don't even know what you'd call it. He's mostly white with splotches of black, tan, and even chocolate. So anxious to see how he turns out as an adult. (ETA..not frizzled, just has a few broken feathers from being the lowest in the pecking order)

With the rest of these guys, from week 1, I have been convinced I had 3 guys and 3 gals..the suspected guys had huge pink combs compared to the gals, but NOW they're suddenly all looking gal-ish?! Sorry I couldn't get good full-body shots..they're inside sharing a spare room with the cockatiels right now while the new grown-out area is being finished. And again, about 11 weeks old.
