Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Well, from my New Years day Hatch-A-Long, I have 5 early arrivals.
The mothers were four Bantam OEG crossbreds ( I think they were bantam and large fowl cross).
3 are Naked Necks and 2 are non-Naked Neck. I found one blue colored one.

Congrats so far on your hatch. I have a long way to wait for any hatching.

so i was just wondering. do your chickens not like a certain clothing color that you wear? today i got new basketball shorts and they are green and one is orange. normally i wear black or gray ones but today i decided to wear the green ones and one of the roosters ran at my leg. that was the first time he ever did that. could it be because of the green color?

OK>>>>Compliments of Fedex...I have certified check in-hand for the entire pure bred Australorp flock. They are to be picked up (with three day's notice) within 30 days. Considering where the folks are coming from, (north-eastern Pa) I'm not going to be a hard case...all I want is the three day notice and that they come after 7PM.

This period will give me time to collect eggs for the FFA members who have requested them...I might even hatch out a few chicks for the ones who do not have access to incubators.

I honestly don't really mind seeing them go. In truth, the NN/Turkens and the hybrids are the back bone of my egg production and the 'new boss' has his own Ideas as how to bring in new genetics....

Oddly...to me, I haven't had one (not one) request for NN eggs or chicks from FFA or 4-H kids....Their loss.

Awesome for you hellbender.

The lack of interest in the NN isn't to suprising, for those of us who love them it is puzzling but most do not share our feelings about the breed.

I cannot wear a ball cap or sunglasses into the chicken runs/coops. It completely freaks them out! Gloves on my hands in the quail pen is absolute pandemonium!

Quote: </p My guess would be that the color is less of an issue than the birds hormone level. Do not let that rooster continue that behavior. Find some way to show him that you are boss and will not tolerate being attacked. Kass how old are your birds ? I am looking forward to having some new NNs this year.

Congrats you were able to find them a home that's awesome. I would miss my BA's but this is my first year with this breed. Looking forward to seeing all the NN chicks ya'll will be hatching in your new project.

Isn't it something Ed my NN lived at our church for close to 2 months before I brought him home and no one had ever seen anything like him and these are old time Mountain folks, most thought he'd been in a fight with so much skin showing. Only person I have actually talked to from here who knew what a NN is was an older fellow who works at our only feed store he says he had some years ago.

Thank you! Are you going to cross your Australorps with ED? If so....you might be quite happy with the results.
