Naked Neck/Turken Thread

It's pretty chilly here too --- supposed to be down to 12 degrees with a wind chill of *0*-ish (gusting wind here). The only good part is there is no snow, freezing rain, etc predicted (cold is unpleasant, wet and cold is deadly). Our animals here just aren't used to it. I've got some guys roosting in the trees --- they may be chicken-sicles by morning.

Congratulations on all the new chicks!! (expected and surprise ones)!!!

I agree. Naked Neck chicks are precious.

Won't be long til you have fertile eggs now : )

Hope everyone's chickens make it through this cold snap! I only have one in the house, well 3. A momma silkie with 2 chicks. I was very surprise when I went out the morning that is was below zero here and heard peeping! I honestly did not think she would be successful! She had 2 chicks under her and one is an NN baby. I can't get pictures of the babies yet because she is one nasty Momma and she got her name Meanie for that reason. She is a well seasoned and great Momma and she should do well with them when I take them back out when this cold is gone, hopefully it is soon gone!!!

Well ............... I brought one boy in the house tonight ........................ but ................... not to keep him warm

Lol Well my flock went into the "chick room" (spare tiny bedroom), with thick plastic on the floor. And I'm still not looking forward to the mess when I clean it up tomorrow! On top of them, there's also one bantam leghorn momma with a chick in a spare brooder, a handful of homegrown faverolles chicks in another brooder, also one of those chicks with a severely deformed leg in another cage that I haven't been able to bring myself to kill, one of my NNs who has a leg issue and has been staying in, a bantam Ameraucana chick and silkie chick in another brooder, and a cage of coturnix quail. I'm also the cleaning lady lol and have to dust daily. Someday I WILL have a building for incubating and brooding..!..

Now, anyone know why my NN cockerel would be fine one day and not wanting to use his left leg at all the next? He hops around on one leg and holds the bum one up. There are no obvious injuries, he's healthy otherwise, I felt the leg over and can't feel a break, there's no bumble foot, the bad leg isn't warmer than the other...
