There are no tricks. Just cross the Naked Neck and Silkie. Take the Naked Neck chicks with the most 'Silkie characteristics' and cross them back to the nicest Silkies, and keep back crossing the Naked Neck Silkie chicks.
The second generation should have silkie feathering and from there on it is just a matter of selecting and backcrossing.
My 3 Turken pullets are very heavy as well. They feel very solid. As for the dry skin, try coconut oil, that is what I am using and it works very well.Just thought I'd comment too that my turkens are the heaviest chicks in my brooder right now. I thought it would be the blue cochin but you can definitely feel the weight difference when you pick up a turken!
Lastly, if their skin looks really dry, is their something I should put on it?
Has anyone started their own showgirl flock with your turkens? I just purchased silkies and I want to try my hand at getting some showgirls from them. Any tips and tricks of the trade?
