Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I betcha Kev has some as do many other folks. The NN just need to be mated with a blue eggs gene rooster and back again. Why not try the breeding both way. If you have both hen and rooster with blue eggs gene (and the pea comb with slate feet hen who lays blue eggs certainly has the blue eggs gene) mate with NN rooster and some percentage of your birds will carry the blue egg gene.

I learned more about the blue eggs gene on the EE and NN thread than any other. For instance I learned that a hen can have both brown and blue eggs genes, the result is the OLIVE eggs.

Where is Kev anyway ? I am thinking of sending out a search party !

I love blue eggs, not so much a fan of the olive. I don't want to do any breeding, at least not now....I just want to benefit from someone else's hard work!

No kidding, I hope he's alright. I mean, he should really tell someone if he's going somewhere.....

According to one of his recent posts, Kev has 50 chickens or so, down from 150 from his different projects. The pictures that I have seen are very interesting and we messaged each other briefly about my purchase of a few. Since then he has not been around and it is only you and I who are wondering. In fact only you and I are hanging out here.

When he gets back on this thread he's going to think I'm a kook!!

He's really not that far from me (hour and a half). Now how am I supposed to sleep with Turkens so close and yet so far away??

OMG total sillies who have nothing better to do. I used to shop for seeds at this time of year and now I am searching for which chicks I want to order for the spring.

Are there Turkens that lay blue eggs?

Hi! I have Naked Necks that lay blue / green / teal / aqua colored eggs.
Here are some eggs for comparison. 'NF' is Naked Neck Frizzle, 'NB' is Naked Neck bantam, 'SFGE' is silkie feathered green-egger, 'A' is Ameraucana, 'C' is Cuckoo/Barred green-egger.

The best egg color is from this line of Naked Neck Frizzles:

Why yes there is a book but it is hard to find. It was written by Mr. Bernard Kellogg, the founder of the National Naked Neck Breeders Society.

To get rid of the bow tie pick the birds with the smallest bow ties and breed them and just keep selecting for the smallest. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

There are two types of NNs. Homozygous and Hetrozygous, most of the time the homozygous will have the smooth necks as they have two dominant NN genes whereas the hetrozygous will often have the bow tie as they just have one dominant NN gene. The reason for breeding the two together is to get a high percentage of the smooth necked birds. I prefer the smooth necks, Teva on the other hand likes the bow ties.

It is my understanding that every chicken has the genes for the NN it's just that in most it is a dormant gene so don't let your Cochins get too close to your NNs. LOL

I don't remember whether I posted these here or not. Went to a lady's house that had NNs for sale and here is what I came home with. They are trying real hard to be Mad. Games and their offspring are real typey for Mad. Games, they stand more upright with smaller combs and more prominant dewlaps.

Aww so cute adorable. Well the NN EE little cockrel that I have is the last line of his flock. I guess you can call that. Sorry its really early for me . My friend told me that about a few weeks ago that coyotes attacked his chickens, and the dad to my little Moe vanished. So Moe is the last of that Rooster. I was like

Not cool and they dont think the coyotes got him???? Its a mystery anyway I told my friend do you want Moe back? He's like no you keep him he's yours. So I offered to get more NN pullet's this spring time when the place I got my oldest chickens has them again. I have hens now but they aren't NN's so not sure exactley if they have chicks they will come out looking like NNs??? Im sure they will but you know what I mean.

Anyway Moe is getting bigger I'll have to take a picture of him again.
