Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Klf73, That cockerel from Nava is a nice looking bird. I'm very please with the birds I got from her...need to post pics.

Figures that the two bantam NN's I kept are both cockerels. This has been the year of the rooster for me.

KKH That is so disappointing that you are having the year of the cockerel ! Of the few birds that I hatched or bought most are female. But Victor is working hard and effectively except non of the birds that appeared to be broody stay on the job. In fact the hens are not making many eggs now, maybe it the crazy temperature fluctuations. Horribly hot, excessively windy and then a few cool day and the cycle starts all over.

PG Melvin looks like a DANDY !

New to Farming you little fellow looks like a sweetie also. Ah, I'm off LF roosters for some time since I am still upset about the demise of Hector, my handsome BLRNN who was trounced by the other rooster who was trounced by me.

NTF....lovely colouring. He'll make a very handsome adult.

KKH....thank you SO much. I have to say that I think I am Queen of Cockerel Hatching.....I managed to get 9 out of 11. As I am also somebody who can't really cull anything, I took about 2 years to re-home them. Since that fateful hatch I have managed to get 4 out of 5 female, so it's just the luck of the draw (or statistical probability!).

Flower....you're right, he DOES look like a bit of a dandy when he is strutting around. He is way down the pecking order and hides away from the other males, but he still manages to tread more than his fair share of the ladies.I guess that's what Dandies were good at......

I was a bit disappointed in that my last hatch had no NN X La Flèche......but DO I have some weird combs.....the 'split' affect of the La Flèche comb is clearly dominant so I have two what look like boys with little crowns on their black heads.

I am seeing such lovely coloured chicks over the last couple of weeks....PLEASE post pics. as they grow.

Good morning All; Of the 6 Buff Laced Polish eggs I bought 4 hatched and 4 were roos. Since I live in a town that doesn't allow roosters and I can't cull them either I had to find homes for all of them. My neighbors want to know whats going on when my girls are a little (ok a lot) vocal. They never have a problem with the dogs in the neighborhood or the truck traffic that shouldn't be on our street. Many people just need something to complain about.

Love all the photos.

I'm sorry I haven't been commenting on everybody's new pictures and birds. They are all wonderful. I would be proud to have any one of them in my flock.

.

I have a single combed splash laced red pullet I hope to put that boy with although I think I prefer the rose comb up here in Maine, less frostbite issues.
