Wow! Is that a pure white jumbo egg? And if yours is a splash, then mine are too. That's what they looked like before, they actually had more white on them! Mine don't have any bibs though. The only way I can tell the males from the females is that the males have red feathers on their vents.

Here's a pic of one of mine. (looks like there are 3 in that pic, plus a redbreasted hen, and some silvers and 'wilds'.

cinnamon hen (who also looks kind of 'splashy')

Yep - white jumbo egg! My splashes don't have any cinnamon on them at all. I think they're a cross between the silver female and the white males but I'm not sre (Niki - where are you!!!) I have the blue breasted males that have the cinnamon on their vents though. They are very pretty.

Ok, my quail just started laying but I have seen the males doing the deed. I will get a test hatch going soon to see if they are fertile. Also, do the same rules apply as chicken eggs as far as collecting them goes? Are they good for about 10 days before incubating them? I'd like to participate soon, I just want to make sure I'm covered.

PC sent me eggs that were like 2 weeks old? I can't remember correctly, but they're developing

I've heard two months if kept in the fridge...im thinking of trying it on coturnix eggs and incubating them myself to see

Yeah, basically same rules as with chickens eggs. You don't have to test hatch them, just crack one open (maybe the one you dropped?

) and see if there is a bullseye. Then send them to me to test hatch for you!

Fertility is checked by the bullseye as well as incubating. A test hatch tests the fertility and the hatchability, if that's a word!
