name this behavior

Flogging is when they use their wings to beat at an opponent.

Using the feet is called sparring, not to be confused with spurring.

It is used as a chickens primary fighting tactic, and to help determine the pecking order.

There we go! Finally! Apparently, that mommy brain got contagious. I tell people that when my kids were born they each get a portion of mine. It grows back but I have to relearn some things. LOL

I think my Lady Lucky is trying to see if she take charge from Fuzzy Wuzzy. Fuzz is always the first one to check out anything. If I wasn't confident that her sexing was correct then I'd think she was a roo.

I think it's a pecking order thing,

and partly my new babies just practicing flying and um "crash landing" because the ones being landed on don't seem bothered by it, and I assume if the flying one was being aggressive it would elicit some kind of reaction.

I have 3 little cochin bantams that hatched last Tuesday. One is definitely setting the pecking order. He bumps chests with the other two, will peck at them if he doesn't want them doing something, and will chase them away from my hand if he wants to get to me first. Its hilarious to watch!

My standards are all doing it too, but its more comical with the tiny ones!
