Names for your chicks

Not all of mine have names but her are a few:
White Crested Black Polish: Roo- Bob (for sideshow Bob on Simpsons) and Phyllis (for Phyllis Diller)
Black Polish: Fro
White Slikies: Fluffy and Muffy

We keep track of who is laying so we do name ours just so we can tell them apart when we refer to them. Currently we have Cleo's Friend ( because our dear dog was her friend), Spreckles ( because she is), "the RIR- which one? with or without a wire tie? I didn't look!", Blueberry- blue FCM, Copper- the FBCM with a copper neck, Mahogany- the FBCM with dark mahagany neck(duh?), the WHite Princess- White Orp with slightly brown tips to her feathers, The Other White Orp, Splash- a splash orp, Blue - a blue orp, and 6 black orps who look identical so we have different zip ties on their legs- not that we ever look at them.
Our roos: Barney - the Aurcauna ( HE named him, I don't get it), Oliver- a splash orp who is the survivor of the Laurel & Hardy duo, and BigBlue, blue FCM.

As much as we love the size of the orps in general, we do need to keep a mixed flock if we are ever to tell them apart. At least we can tell the FBCM's from one another, but those black orps, no way!

Our chickens have Harry Potter theme names.

Sunny
Shania
(all EEs)

My latest four were just named today:
Salsa (Silver Spangled Hamburg)
Tiny (Light Brahma)
Velvet, V for short (Australorp)
Freckle (Speckled Sussex)

Our 2 hens are referred to either Minnie & Pearl or Baldy & Not Baldy

Our Rooster was named Seto after one of my husband's fraternity brother that is still single and always surrounded by beautiful women, you get the picture

We don't have a name for our 4 day old chick - but I think it's going to be Uno since it's all by itself.

The plan for our ordered chicks is 007 & Dr. No for the roosters and all the girls will be all Bond Girl names: Solitaire, Tiffany Case, Octopussy, Domino, Jinx, Vesper, Honey Rider, Mary Goodnight, Pussy Galore etc etc

My broody hatched two babies during the Saints run to the Super Bowl in early 2010. One of those babies was a golden feathered pullet, the other baby was a predominently black feathered cockerel. Black and gold are the Saint's colors, of course, and I am a born and raised New Orleanian who has supported the Saints as long as I can remember.


Anyway, it was just natural that I'd name those two chicks after 2009 Saint Super Stars.


The black roo I named Pierre Thomas (Pierre is a MUCH BETTER running back than Reggie Bush!).


The golden feathered pullet I named Drew Brees.


Drew was named MVP of Super Bowl 44 (MVP -- Most Valuable Pullet).


Pierre scored one of the Saints touchdowns in Super Bowl 44, but today he is better known for his ability to tackle any hen that enters his chicken run....

Be cautious about naming your chicks if you do not plan on keeping them if they turn out to be roosters, it will make it more difficult to give them up, especially if you have kids.

It's up to you if you want to give your meat birds names, even the ones that you're going to keep for several years first as layers. Some folks don't mind & can handle it, but it makes others more upset.

We don't even have chicks yet, but we do have eggs in the incubator. This weekend we sat down with the kids & brainstormed names. We came up with: Henley, Layena, Omlet, Ina Garden, and we still need 2 more.
