Naming chickens

There are 7 people in our family and we got 7 chickens so everyone got to name one.

Gortimer-My dad named him after a TV show.
Lavender-My mom loves essential oils!
Jagger-I just liked the name because it's different, esp. for a hen!
Emily-My brother thought it sounded cute.
Leia-My other brother loves Star Wars.
Violet-My mom wanted to name her bird this but my sister stole the name!
Arya-My other brother found this name in the Eragon series.

Naming is wild and varied and not all get names individually. Like I call all the rir's lil red hen, And all the barred rocks lil momma. The Rooster was named for attitude he is rowdy (rir)There is Lady the one americauna who had to be helped assimilate with the rest of the flock. Then there is broody mama a barred rock who is always on the nest box tryig to keep her eggs. she pecks and bites and growls but it is very lightly obviously she could do much worse. The there are the ones we have been hatching ourselves notables ahve been named Favorite and 2nd favorite have a beautiful grey feathering we loved. And there is pretty girl pretty sure she is what is known as a red star a reddish golden girl very pretty and you have to physically remove here from the coop she does not like to go outside for some weird reason. There is special. One of those that probably should have been culled but he disability doesn't seem to slow her down much she has a odd twist to her neck and has to sneak in to the food sideways. but freaks people out when it appears she turns her head all the way around. There was Asshole one of the makes who was notable for jumping up on the side of the play pen brooder and then pretend he didn't want attention but as soon as you came into the bathroom he'd be right up there for pets and loving griping the whole time. He was culled in the butchering we just did most of those butchered were the "piggies" whish is what we called the meat chicks we got because they were very much little eatting pooping pig like birds. The the last of our hatchlings is Gimpy Mamma. Anther that probably should have been culled due to a badly crooked leg. But I kept watching for signs of duress and she seemed to be managing so we kept her in especially since she was getting picked on and when I got my Bantams I tried putting them in with her even though she was pretty big by then and they were such tiny lil things. Well it was a perfect match she took to mothering right off youd go in and find the babies either tucked under her tail or wings or actually perched on top of her she was a sweet as could be to those babies. Hence her name gimpy momma she is still with my hobitses (group noun for my bantams) and when I build them their own coop with high aviary sinc ethey like to flutter and fly it will have a special built lower mommas area for her to live in built for her comfort she is just too sweet not to love. Not my hobitses I'll get pics one of these days are Chewie a browngray silkie batam reminded me of chewbaca and Karen also a silkie yellow in color who was chirping and scolding and fussing at me in the pen at the farm store fussed when I picked her up fussed in the box all the way home and fussed most of the first night in the brooder. So obviously I had to name her after my wife :p The there is peewee who stayed notably smaller than the rest and is my baby she comes to see me every time I come to the brooder. Then is sunshine who has a sunny colloring with a paler splash around her eyes and face. yes I sing her the song she is my sunshine after all. And Baby huey The only roo of the bunch who was dark colored with that adorable white "diaper" butt. Then the latest additions and only ones I plan to buy of bantams is Carrie another yellow silkie so since she is karens baby sister I named her carrie after my sister in law there is houdini who I knew was gonna be the first to escape the box they were initially placed in he was always studying the uper edges of the box and I was right he was first. Then is the last two they are different than the rest they had les feathering on their feet when young and appear like possibly miniature buff orpingtons anyway from day one I could just put my hand in the box opposite end from them and buddy would come over to see me and let me pet her. her little sister has the funniest mannerism when she is gonna go she runs and when she runs it's like instant start and stops when she hits somthing it's adorable to watch she will start leaning until her beak is nearly on the floor then start pumpping them legs and just fly across the box till she hits a sister a wall or a feeder so she is named ping after sherrif ping ping ping richochet rabbit :D Hows that for a long hard to read mess of naming. in case you havent noticed I'm really loving my birdy babies. Thanks for having me.

I received my eight (8) juvenile Nankins last Wednesday (June 6, 2018), consisting of two cockerels and six pullets.

I decided to name them after family members, who aware of the Nankins rarity, were clamoring to have one name after themselves. The First Lady got first choice (of course) and the most “elegant” appearing pullet was named after her.

The remaining pullets were named after my Sister, two Sisters-in-Law, my Daughter, and my Daughter-in-Law.

The two cockerels were named after our two Sons.

For family members not selected, I promised “consideration” for naming in the next crop!

Everybody wanted a picture of “their” Nankins.
