Some of our birds have names that we thought about, but most just came to us due to their appearance, or other attributes.
Sassy got her name because my husband put his arm over the gate into a group of adolescent chicks and scared one of them. Sassy hunted my husband down, jumped up and bit him on the arm (drawing blood) for scaring the other chickies.
Marsha-Lena started out as Lena for a leaning comb, but I started thinking it was lame and renamed her Marsha, but my husband couldn't seem to remember it, so it's now Marsha-Lena.
Skittles was always skittish.
Terra and Luna came home on Earth Day.
Buck was named as such because that's all he ever said until he started crowing.
Muffy has muffs.
Zippy put her head down and zipped around the brooder.
Dora is just a sweetie and so I just picked a cute, old-fashioned name.
Twiggy is just very cute, and earthy.
Of the new birds, only one has a name. A feed store employee gave us an EE chick with a slight cross beak because they did not want to cull it. It has grown out of the cross beak, and we named it Free Bird because it didn't cost us anything.
Just go with what makes sense to you and is easy to remember. I have a listing of names that I like that I may use for the new birds, but nothing has stuck yet. Naming them should be fun and nothing to stress about.
